Krzysztof Ratajski Triumphs at the 2026 European Darts Open in Leverkusen

Krzysztof Ratajski is the champion of the 2026 European Darts Open. Following an impressive tournament run, the “Polish Eagle” defeated Jermaine Wattimena 8-6 in the final to crown a memorable evening with the title. On his way to the trophy, Ratajski defeated defending champion Nathan Aspinall as well as his fellow Pole Sebastian Bialecki.
Ratajski Ends Aspinall’s Title Defence
In the quarter-finals, Nathan Aspinall presented Ratajski with a serious test. The Englishman initially had the upper hand in the scoring and could easily have established an early lead. However, Ratajski stayed in the match and consistently capitalised on his opponent’s missed doubles.
With the score level at 3-3, the Pole secured the first break to move 4-3 ahead. Aspinall immediately responded with a 14-darter, but Ratajski remained unfazed. In the decisive phase of the match, the “Polish Eagle” raised his level once again, producing an impressive 12-darter along the way.
Ratajski eventually sealed a 6-4 victory, bringing Aspinall’s title defence to an end. The win also set up a special moment in European Tour history: for the first time, two Polish players would face each other in a European Tour semi-final.
Historic All-Polish Semi-Final Against Sebastian Bialecki
In the semi-final, Ratajski faced his fellow countryman and World Cup partner Sebastian Bialecki, who is 26 years his junior. The youngster made by far the better start, with checkouts of 101 and 98 helping Bialecki race into a 3-0 lead.
But Ratajski demonstrated why his experience on the big stage can be such a decisive factor. A 13-darter launched his comeback, followed by a crucial 110 finish. Shortly afterwards, Ratajski produced a spectacular 170 checkout to level the match at 3-3.
The contest remained tight. Both players struggled on the doubles in the ninth leg, but Ratajski eventually held his nerve to secure the crucial break and move 5-4 ahead. Bialecki continued to battle, but he was unable to stop the experienced “Polish Eagle”.
Finishes of 83 and 72 saw Ratajski complete a 7-5 victory and book his place in the final.
Final: Ratajski Starts Strong – Wattimena Turns the Match Around
In the final against Jermaine Wattimena, Ratajski made a dream start. Winning the opening legs in 19, 15 and 14 darts, the Pole quickly raced into a 3-0 lead and appeared to have the final firmly under control.
However, Wattimena fought his way back into the match. After Ratajski missed two darts at tops that would have made it 4-0, the Dutchman seized his opportunity. Wattimena gradually reduced the deficit, eventually levelled the match at 4-4 and then moved into the lead himself.
An 84 checkout gave Wattimena another break of throw. When Ratajski subsequently missed five more darts at doubles, the Dutchman moved 6-4 ahead. What had started as a comfortable advantage for the Pole had suddenly turned into a two-leg deficit. Ratajski was now under enormous pressure – and it was precisely at this point that he found his way back into the match.
After a final full of twists and turns, Krzysztof Ratajski was eventually able to lift the trophy. Particularly impressive was the way the Pole battled through the decisive matches of the tournament.
In the quarter-finals, he ended defending champion Nathan Aspinall’s run with a 6-4 victory. In the historic all-Polish semi-final, he recovered from a 3-0 deficit against Sebastian Bialecki to win 7-5. And in the final, even five consecutive lost legs and a 6-4 deficit were not enough to unsettle him.
Four consecutive legs ultimately made the difference: an 8-6 victory over Jermaine Wattimena and the 2026 European Darts Open title for Krzysztof Ratajski.
It is Krzysztof Ratajski’s third European Tour title and his 12th PDC title overall.
